After numerous budget related set-backs, the first ever Brinkley-Class destroyer war ship, which was formally unveiled Thursday, has just last evening set sail from Iustitia Naval Base and Shipyards. The ship, christened the MSS Astra, is set to relive the MSS L. Harden from its defensive post in the Strait of St. Peter.
The new vessel will easily outmaneuver and outgun any Bjeorg vessels that may attempt to threaten the security of the West-Coast of Libertas Omnium Maximus. The Astra will ultimately be accompanied by a sister-ship, the MSS Luna, which is still being constructed.
While the state-department has classified the disputed territory of Bjeorg as "Inactive but Hostile," many of the Brinkley Class's advocates cited the reason for new ships as being both a show of strength and a good insurance policy. One such proponent went as far as to say that the creation of these new vessels were: "Excessive but essential to the preservation of peace in Central Hespia.
One member of the Vox Regionum, Jane Powell (PCP-O) who openly opposed the new class, calls it "...a hideous monster built to destroy both our budget and our shaky-but-tangible diplomatic ties with Bjeorg." Unfortunately for the Navy, she is not alone. Recently, 10,000+ have signed a recent petition asking the government to reduce military spending.
President Brown responded to this petition yesterday saying, "When the war stops coming, we will stop spending money on our military. Until them, we are going to keep building up enough of a deterrent that not even the most insane leader would pick a fight with us! Nations that are a pushover militarily will be taken advantage of. We are no such nation. We are not idealists, we are realists! We see the threat and we prepare as best we can. This new Destroyer is yet another reason not to pick on us: We Bite!"
